The 3-Second Test: Are Your Dark Circles Genetic or Just Fatigue?

June 5, 20263 min read

Not all dark circles are the same. Some come from pigment deposits (often genetic), some from thinning skin that reveals blood vessels underneath, and some are simply from lack of sleep and fatigue.

A simple test: gently stretch the skin under your eye. If the darkness lightens or changes, it's likely vascular. If the color stays the same, it's more likely pigment or genetics.

Regardless of the cause, adequate sleep, hydration, and sunscreen around the eyes reduce the appearance of dark circles over time. For severe genetic cases, a specialist consultation may help with more targeted options.
